Solid Patterns
Solid neutral colours are always my favourite. Think colours that you can find in nature... creams, greens, browns, blues. The linen texture of these fabrics also add an element to the photos that I really love!
Print Patterns
Print patterns can often be used as a way to tie all of your outfits together. For example, the brown and blue print on this dress pulls the colours from the two other outfits nicely without being overwhelming. however, adding more than 1 print pattern, can start to cause distraction really quickly.
Children
Consider dressing the kids just before the session starts. Wearing a large T-shirt over top of the photo outfit, that can be quickly removed, is also another way to keep outfits tidy and dry before photos.
Adults
I want you to feel comfortable. But, I also want you to use this opportunity to have a little fun. Dress up a bit more than usual, spend some time with your hair or be intentional about picking your accessories.
All
If you are intentional about planning your outfits, it shows...
You'll have a confidence that shines through the camera, if you are wearing something that makes you feel exactly like you, in the season you are in,
authentically here, in your beautiful journey.
Coordinate Colours
Choose 1, maybe 2 colours to be the base of all of your outfits.
Neutral Colours
Earthy tones like creams, greens, and brown of different shades look great.
Flexibility
You're going to love an outfit that still allows you the flexibility to play... my prompts often include movement!
Finishing Touches
Those little accessories, can really enhance your photos..
even if they only wear them for a short time.
Shoes
Please consider wearing something that you're comfortable in! Shoes that allow you to move around quickly and easily and offer protection during exploration are ideal. I am no stranger to long grass, patches of flowering weeds, and chasing after toddlers.
Props/ Accessories
You are always welcome to bring your own things to use during a session. These can include hats, flower crowns, purses or special jewelry. They can be handmade items, or sentimental keepsakes. A necklace with a loved ones initial, is a simple example.
Please tell me!
If there is an aspect to your outfit that deserves special recognition, please tell me. Perhaps, Mama's hand stitched embroidery on babies birthday dress... Or, Grandma's ring, Grandad's pocket watch...
I don't need to know the backstory, I just need to know it's special, and have an opportunity to capture it.
The most beautiful part of any photo is always
Your smile
Regardless of the outfits you choose or how well you coordinate, the most important thing you can wear the day of your photo session is a smile and a positive attitude.
